Advocacy

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandates that an Individualized Education Program (IEP) be developed for any child identified with a disability requiring specialized instruction. Under the IDEA, this written plan must clearly outline how educational services, related services, and supports will be provided to students with disabilities.

ACT offers comprehensive guidance through meticulous and strategic preparation before any school-based meeting. This preparation includes a thorough review of relevant school documentation to identify key concerns and foster inquiries that are both thoughtful and respectful, understanding that differences of opinion may arise during the meeting. After the meeting, ACT will scrutinize the Prior Written Notice to ensure the documented summary accurately reflects the discussions held and aligns with the team’s decisions. Furthermore, ACT will verify that all compliance timelines have been adhered to and ensure that all necessary documents are provided. In the event of a disagreement, ACT will collaborate with the school team to explore constructive pathways forward, maintaining a cooperative and solutions-oriented approach.

Consultation

Provide individualized services to support your child with academics, behavior, social emotional learning and more. These services can include: in-home training to support communication, routines, emotional regulation and more. ACT provides individualized in-home consultation for a variety of purposes.  ACT will spend time with the family to evaluate your needs and goals at home and/or in the community.  With the information you provide, ACT will develop a plan and provide training for the family.  ACT will follow up on a weekly basis and make changes to the plan and provide additional training to family members as needed.

Training

ACT provides multiple opportunities throughout the year for group training and parent connection. Information regarding these opportunities can be found on our website, Facebook or Instagram pages. Parents of students that present with behavioral challenges may feel excluded.  Their child may also feel excluded.  School contacts with negative reports of behavior and seldom reports of awards can feel exclusionary.  At ACT, finding support with other parents with similar challenges can offer an opportunity to connect and relate to others.
